As we end out the year, what are some of your overall opinions of C.S. Lewis. Are they the same as when you came in? Are they different? And, if in fact they are different what made you change your idea about Lewis? As for me I know my view of C.S. Lewis has changed rather remarkably, almost in a circular pattern. For I started out seeing Lewis as one of the great Christian writers of the 2oth Century and like anyone else once you start seeing past the infatuation you realize their faults, this caused me to be quite cynical about Lewis, but gladly I got passed that as well and realized his human faults are refreshing! Has anyone had a similar experience? Or am I just practicing the law of undulation?

I can certainly relate to your experience. For me I began by being more mystified than anything else at some of the ideas that he had and mistaking his originality in some areas as truths. As I read more and thought more about the things I had read in the past it was easier to see through his originality to the possible flaws in his thinking. It also made it much easier to analyze things as I read them. I also feel that some of his faults are refreshing. I still find some of his inconsistencies to be more frustrating than anything else. I also had this idea that Lewis was a guy that lived mostly in his head and that concept has changed a little as I have read more of his work. There are certainly times when I feel that Lewis doesn't have enough life experience to support what he is saying, and I think that some of these instances are obvious in how and what he writes about on certain topics. Now though I see him as a much more rounded person than I originally did. This makes his writing much more enjoyable as well.
