The opening line of letter 30 in the Screwtape Letters was quite funny (ok, at least to me).
"I sometimes wonder whether you think you have been sent into the world for your own amusement."
After I read this, my first thought was funny, my second thought was people who like to talk just to hear their own voice.

And perhaps our third thought should be ourselves, because how often do we go to church, sunday school (as childrens), school, etc., expecting to be entertained or amused...
if a pastor is dull, we complain, if his sermon is unoriginal, we complain. how more often do we remember the pastor's opening joke or line or story, and forget the point? We expect to be amused and entertained, perhaps we should focus on praising and understanding instead...
Another little part of the book I enjoyed was how each letter was signed "Your affectionate uncle Screwtape." There is just a good deal of irony in demons having affection for one another that I really enjoyed. On the other hand maybe it is possible for demons to have affection for one another just as it is possible for humans to have affection for one another. I suppose we don't really know. Anyway, I still thought it was pretty funny.
