I ran across an interesting passage while finishing up The Great Divorce. It is in chapter nine where a Ghost and a Spirit are talking about meeting famous people in heaven.
" 'But surely in the case of distinguished people, you'd hear?'
'But they aren't distinguished-no more than anyone else. Don't you understand? The Glory flows into everyone, and back from everyone: like light and mirrors. But the light's the thing.'
'Do you mean there are no famous men?'
'They are all famous. They are all known, remembered, recognised by the only Mind that can give a perfect judgement.' "
I thought that this was a great passage. I think that many people (myself included) think of all sorts of famous people that we will meet in heaven. You may have even been asked before "Besides Jesus, who do you want to meet when you get to heaven?" It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that there may not be any distinctions among people when I get there. We may well be all equals and God, in his perfect wisdom will know and recognize us as such.

I always had dreams when I was younger about meeting people like George Washington, Abraham (of the Bible), and different sports stars like Babe Ruth! The idea of us being distinguished through glory and undistinguished seems paradoxical at first but in the ultimate light, they talk about, it definitely seems possible that it can co-exist. I have heard stories and have seen dramas about the judgement seat. One of them is called "The Bema Seat". In this drama people are gathered in an stadium like structure and in the middle is Jesus. Time is not a factor their, and one by one people are called up to Jesus and their life is projected out for Jesus and everyone to see. Then at the end when the person seems ashamed Jesus looks at him or her and says your forgiven, it is this moment that this light and glory is flowed upon him or her. This drama is interesting to me because in this drama their is a since that some people have lights that are much brighter than others and therefore seem to be distinguished. This seems to be in some tension with what Lewis is writing about.
